A restaurant or a gym is used harder than any home, and it still has to feel considered. The approach does not change: real materials, layered rooms, nothing imitation.

The stages are the same. In the concept, the materials, the interior architecture and the hardware are chosen and shown in 3D. Documentation is the set of technical drawings a builder or contractor quotes on and builds from. Then come the fit-out and the styling.

The studio was on the hospitality shortlist at Australian Design Review IDEA 2015.

Celsius Cryotherapy Clinic began as an existing retail space in Moonee Ponds. The brief was a modern and edgy clinic that looked sterile.

The space itself was straightforward. The difficult parts were the curved feature cornice and the organic line of LED along the wall. The curve needed a fully custom mould, at considerable cost, and because it was the key architectural feature of the scheme, the client chose to proceed. The result rewarded the decision.

Liquid metal panels run across the ceiling, the walls are plaster, the counter is glass brick and the floor is epoxy. The chandelier was designed for Celsius and custom made. Its form refers to the way cryotherapy works on the nerves of the body.

Arches have been designed and used for many years, and they are overdone. For a beauty clinic offering injectables and facials, we advised against them.

We chose standard square doors instead, embellished with brass to create interest without following a trend.

At Celsius the work covered architectural review, interior design, lighting design, joinery design, material specification, loose furniture and fittings, styling and decoration, and project management.
